This publication is the result of the International Conference Innovations in nursing homes for people in situations of dependency: Architectural design and care model, that took place on December 2011 in Madrid. The aim is to contribute to the debate opened for some years in most countries in our sphere of influence, and which has also begun to be discussed in Spain, regarding architectural designs and care models that might be able to respond to issues such as:
- How to make principles of dignity, autonomy and rights viable, when people live in long stay accommodation, due to their need to receive support and permanent care?
- What architectural and design criteria are required to provide environments that support the control of space and one’s own life?
- Can “home” accommodation costs, where quality care is ensured, be assumed?
- How to advance in the person-centered care model, based on existing equipment?
